Sixty years from now there are no governments. There is no leadership. No air transportation. There is only hope for survival in the uninhabited parts of the world. Warfare has ravaged the planet, and only a select handful of people survive. In the far reaches of the South Pacific lies a stretch of islands called the Dark Horizon, a former military base and now hideaway for a band of cutthroat pirates; pillagers of passing transports carrying survivors from combat.

Gabriel Hawkins (Matthew Charles Hall), a legendary captain of the sailing vessel Invictus, leaves behind his life of piracy in exchange for an occupation as a transport for hire. His famed sailing ship and it’s small crew, made up of aspiring treasure hunter Jonathan Davies (Kyle Cahill) and former air force pilot “Slider” Finch (Christina Reyes), carry two passengers who are looking for transport towards the former Hawaiian islands.

Violating a trade agreement with the South Sea League of Pirates, Gabriel and his team head west into treacherous waters to take two fellow former Americans to shelter, one of them being Rebecca (Crystal Cooper), beautiful young woman in search of her family. As the adventure unfolds, these heroes are pursued by a band of cutthroat pirates along with the hazardous conditions of the sea and must return to the waters of the Dark Horizon in order to survive.

Featuring exotic landscape photography from the air and from above and below the sea, Dark Horizon is riddled with exciting action, passionate drama, unforgettable characters, and breathtaking visuals that combine to form one of the most ambitious independent films in recent times. Dozens of cinematic talents and special effects coordinators join the team of artists and technicians to bring the post apocalyptic world to life as does Pirates of the Caribbean sword maker Tony Swatton, who created the films weaponry. Directed by first time feature film director Matthew Charles Hall, Dark Horizon is currently wrapping up it’s year long principle photography schedule on international waters out of Long Beach, California. It has proved to be a dreadfully ambitious project for an independent filmmaker. Actors Tommy Lamarr Owens (Primary Colors, Scream 2), Dempsey Pappion (War of the Worlds, Fun With Dick and Jane) and Paul “Gabbby” Bashaw (Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End, HBO’s Deadwood) team up with first time screen actors Crystal Cooper, Kyle Cahill, Christina Reyes, and Troy Guthrie to form the survivors and pirates of the Dark Horizon. In addition, Matthew Charles Hall directs himself in the lead role of Gabriel Hawkins.

The film is scheduled for a world premiere at the beautiful Lido Theater in Newport Beach, California this upcoming spring and will later tour the country at various film festivals promoting independent film.
